MEET THE ARTIST

Nykia Jackson
Nykia Jackson, a Jacksonville native, is a self-taught visual artist who has centered her work on healing, cultural representation, and mental health advocacy. After experiencing her own mental health challenges, she began producing more intentional work, using her creative approach to address gaps within African American communities pertaining to mental health awareness.
Through various materials and techniques, she creates resonating works expanding on topics of identity, vulnerability, and growth, promoting conversations that challenge stigma while uplifting others on their own wellness journeys. Her art reflects both personal growth and collective healing, making her practice a tool for connection, transformation, and hope.

Do the Work.
Community engagement is at the heart of my artistic practice. Through murals, workshops, youth programs, and partnerships with local organizations, I use art as a tool for healing, self-expression, and connection. Creating accessible spaces for creativity—especially within Black and underserved communities—allows stories to be seen, voices to be valued, and confidence to grow. This work is important to me because it transforms art from something observed into something experienced, fostering belonging, resilience, and collective care.
